Sensory Arts & Science Announces Scientific Advisory Board Appointments
Lederach, PA -- March 15, 2002 -- Sensory Arts & Science today announced the formation of a Scientific
Advisory Board, and the addition of five distinguished members effective immediately. "This is another milestone in our continuing
growth and development as a scientifically-rooted technology organization. These five members represent incredible knowledge and experience in their respective
areas. We are very pleased to welcome these colleagues, and thank them in advance for their contributions to the future of
Sensory Arts.", offered Dave Davis, President of Sensory Arts & Science.
The members of the newly established Scientific Advisory Board are Peter Febbroriello, Avery N. Gilbert, Ph.D., Michael Jones, Ph.D.,
Aureliu Porumbescu, Ph.D., and Robert C. Sergott, M.D.
Peter Febbroriello
Peter’s background is varied and fascinating. He is the founder and principal of the Research Support Group, where he provides a range of R&D services
to companies large and small. His background includes significant work and achievement in mechanical, electrical, and bio-medical engineering. He has authored
a number of important studies in biophysics and biochemistry, and has recently provided R&D assistance to the University of Connecticut Health Center, Knolls
Atomic Power Laboratory, and General Electric. Peter holds a degree in biology from University of Connecticut.
Avery N. Gilbert, Ph.D.
Dr. Gilbert is a sensory psychologist specializing in odor perception, with over 16 years experience in the field of human olfaction. He
is President of Cranial One Corporation, offering single-use rapid olfaction testing for physicians. Dr. Gilbert previously founded
Synesthetics, Inc., a multisensory research and consulting company specializing in the consumer impact of smell. He is also President of
the Sense of Smell Institute, a not-for-profit organization and global resource for the olfactory sense. Formerly Vice President of Sensory
Psychology at Givaudan Roure Fragrances, and a faculty member at the Monell Chemical Senses Center, Dr. Gilbert has authored more than two
dozen scientific papers in his area of expertise.
Michael Jones, Ph.D.
Dr. Jones specializes in computer vision, virtual reality, and Artificial Intelligence. After receiving his Ph.D. in Computer Vision from
the University of Manchester, Dr. Jones performed landmark research in the area of super-computing vector algorithms and simulation. Most recently,
he has worked as an independent consultant to various firms, and has developed advanced technologies for 3-d modeling and web-based
expert systems. Dr. Jones is based near Cambridge, England.
Aureliu Porumbescu, Ph.D.
Dr. Porumbescu holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and System Science from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest and an M.S. from Polytechnic
University of New York. He also has a Courtesy Assistantship in Biotechnology at University of Florida. For the last seven years, Dr. Porumbescu has
been President of Array Vision Engineering and Proactive Metabolics. Prior to that he spent five years as Corporate Vice President with Invacare Corp.
His technical career includes ten years of advanced electro-optics and nuclear spectroscopy work with Schlumberger in Princeton,
ITT in Fort Wayne, and Varian in Palo Alto for developing military and aerospace devices and systems.
Robert C. Sergott, M.D.
Dr. Sergott is Co-Director and Attending Surgeon of the Neuro-Ophthalmology Service at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He was named several times to the list of the
Best Doctors in America and has authored more than 120 scientific papers, and lectured throughout the U.S., Europe, South America, and Middle East.
His work also spans the technology industry, including having run Siemens World Research Center for Ophthalmic Color Doppler Studies. Dr. Sergott received
his undergraduate and M.D. degrees from Johns Hopkins University.
